WISCONSIN DELLS
OPOLY GAME
NEW - The area known today as the Wisconsin Dells
actually encompasses two communities: the city of Wisconsin Dells and the
Village of Lake Delton. the area is named after the "Dells of the
Wisconsin River", five miles of Wisconsin River corridor with spectacular
gorge, cliffs, canyons and rock formations carved into Cambrian Sandstone
millions of years ago. The word "dells" can be interpreted as
"rapids". the flow of the 430 mile wide Wisconsin river is channeled within
a 50 feet wide "narrows" and the depth reaches 100 feet. The Ho Chunk people
who lived along the Wisconsin River, believed it was formed by Manitou, and
enormous serpent who slithered through the area scraping rocks into weird
formations. Kilbourn City (now Wisconsin Dells) was founded in 1856
when Byron Kilbourn decided ot build his railroad bridge across the
Wisconsin River at this location.
Tourism has become the major industry in the Dells since that era, as
thousands of hotel, motel and condo units, hundreds of stores and
restaurants and nearly one hundred attractions dot the area. Modern
Waterparks, attractions, historic sites and museums add to the eclectic mix
of things to see and do in the area. Wisconsin Dells is truly the
vacation capital of the Midwest!This
