From the shores of Lake Michigan and throughout all the many communities,
experience the culture and the history that brought bratwurst and cheese to
major fame.
In 1635, French Explorers were the first white men to explore the vast
beginnings of the Sheboygan Community. In 1699, Father St. Cosme
Landed at a Pottawatomie Indian Village at the site of the Sheboygan River
that runs throughout the county. Sheboygan is named, from a Chippewa
Indian word meaning "passage or waterway between the lakes". World
class industries in the area support a diverse economy from manufacturing,
engineering, to Elkhart Lake's world famous "Road America" where Super
cycles to CART Racing Teams experience speed, power and a racetrack that is
everyone's favorite. Sheboygan is celebrated for being the "Bratwurst
Capital of the World" and don't forget the Cheese.
